So… What Makes Our Products Smell So Good?

Fragrance Oil vs. Essential Oil

Essential oils are obtained by distilling or cold-pressing the flower or other parts of a plant.

Fragrance oils are created chemically in a lab to create a desired aroma.

Why Does it Matter?

While some essential oils can be irritating to the skin if not diluted properly, there are many fragrance oils that contain chemicals that may be harmful to humans regardless of how diluted they are.  Phthalates are one of the most concerning chemicals used in some fragrance oils as they are known to disrupt the endocrine system and have other negative impacts on the body.  Also, fragrance oils may be mixed with alcohols that can be drying and irritating.  Mad Mandy will never offer products that contain harmful or irritating fragrances.

How Do I know What’s In My Mad Mandy Products?

In order to be as transparent as possible, we have provided a breakdown of the percentages of essential oils and fragrance oils in each of our scents.  For those that do contain fragrance oils, we always choose phthalate free and skin-safe oils that are used within the recommended safety guidelines.  And although vanilla is not technically an essential oil because it is too delicate to survive the distilling process, we consider it an essential oil in our products.
